Cricket is the most popular sport in India. And Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar is a retired Indian cricketer who is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of all time.
Nicknamed the Master Blaster, Tendulkar established a slew of records over the course of his career.
But if there was one thing he took more seriously than being a world-class cricket player, it was the role he took on as dad to his children.
Here are five things he had to say about being a good parent:
Passion versus Performance
When the celebrity cricketer was asked about his 14-year-old son Arjun, Sachin told the media to not put any pressure on a budding cricketer based on his father’s performance. He went to say that if someone would have has such expectations from Sachin, he would have been holding a pen like his professor father and not a bat.
As a dad Sachin believes that his son should enjoy his passion for cricket instead of hankering to perform. In an increasingly competitive world for children and parents, these are words to live by.
Spend Time with Family
The celebrity cricketer confessed that he missed out on his children’s birthdays, annual days and other such events that were special for the family. However, post his retirement he has promised to commit himself to spending more time with them and go for holidays with them. Earlier, it has been reported that the cricketer would take off time for his kids no matter how packed his schedule was.
Spending time with kids is a conscious choice and you might be drifted away by your daily drills but come back to them and be a part of their ‘special’ days.
